Vitamin C vs. Niacinamide: which do you need?
14 May 2026
Vitamin C and niacinamide are two of the most popular ingredients in skincare, and for good reason — but they do different jobs, and knowing which you need saves money and frustration.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant best known for brightening. It helps fade dark spots, even out tone and protect skin from daily environmental stress. It shines in the morning, layered under sunscreen.
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that calms the skin, supports the barrier, regulates oil and refines the look of pores. It is gentle enough for most skin types and pairs well with almost everything.
Despite an old myth, they can absolutely be used together — modern formulas are stable and well tolerated. If you are cautious, use vitamin C in the morning and niacinamide at night. Whatever you choose, introduce one new active at a time so you can tell what is working.
